Things We Already Know: BBC Doomed England

As ironies go, this one’s pretty good given the full spectrum of their acronym, and all, even if it’s no longer surprising. Everyone knows that the BBC’s decision to broadcast their Panorama expose just two days before the vote hurt their chances. It was likely directly responsible for their exit in the first round of voting, even, though it’s unlikely they were getting the tournament anyway (FIFA’s lost its taste for vanilla, it seems)

The BBC Explains Why England Lost

And yes, the BBC is on the list, possibly ranked one through three. Ghosting around the internet today is like stumbling through a scorched earth, and anything with a superfluous u runs the gamut from rage to sorrow to bewilderment to magnanimousness , having been forcibly removed of their inalienable right to win the bid. Because they’re England, or something.

Danny Jordaan Cleanses His Soul

Now’s probably not the best time to announce this, not with Sepp basking in his powerful glory and FIFA in heaps of trouble as it is, but alas, Danny Jordaan must cleanse his soul of all its evils. Portuspain 2018 and Qatar 2022 have been accused of colluding for the upcoming World Cup decisions, supposedly agreeing to swap votes. While this is investigated by FIFA and a team of novice, possibly fictional, pre-teen sleuths, Jordaan, head of the South African World Cup, admitted they did as much to win this summer’s World Cup

US Drops World Cup 2018 Bid; England Drops World Cup 2022 Bid.

These moves have been unofficial for some time with FIFA reportedly just dropping them from consideration and pushing the 2018 World Cup to Europe, but today they’ve been made official – probably with some heavy pushing from FIFA. Nothing’s really changed but the names on the bid committee: World Cup 2018 has always been heading to Europe, while 2022 will go either Asia (including Australia) or the US
